Reference loudspeakers are often expected to be large, visually dominant, and supported by racks of separate components. The new Linn 343 takes a different approach.
It delivers reference-level performance in a compact form that fits comfortably into a living space. Linn’s Pistonik bass technology works alongside a newly developed composite cabinet and carefully integrated electronics. Together, these elements reproduce music with impressive scale and precision without overwhelming the room.
The 343 is available in two configurations: the Linn 343 Exakt Integrated and the Linn 343 Passive with Active Bass. Listeners can choose a fully integrated Linn system or the flexibility of external amplification.
Designed Around Pistonik Technology

The 343 is the first Linn loudspeaker designed from the outset around Pistonik technology. Its drivers, cabinet, electronics, and down-firing bass system were developed to work together as one acoustic system.
-
Upper-bass driver: Adds body, weight, and presence to instruments and voices.
-
Down-firing bass driver: Produces the depth and scale normally associated with a much larger speaker.
-
Controlled movement: Helps reduce distortion and keeps bass notes clear, textured, and well-defined.
-
Floor-facing design: Uses the floor to distribute low-frequency energy more evenly throughout the room.
-
Compact cabinet: Accommodates powerful bass performance while maintaining a slender front profile.
The down-firing arrangement also keeps the front of the cabinet slender and visually composed, helping the 343 deliver serious bass from a compact form.
A Cabinet Designed to Disappear

The 343's shape isn't just a styling decision. Its continuous cabinet has no conventional hard edges, helping sound leave the speaker more consistently and reducing diffraction around the enclosure.
The result is a stable soundstage across a wider listening area, with less attention drawn to where each speaker sits.
The cabinet is moulded from a glass-fibre-reinforced compound that is stiff and dense, allowing thinner walls and more internal volume. Its curved lower section makes room for the down-firing bass driver while keeping the front profile narrow, so the 343 looks light on its stand and sits comfortably in the room.
Four-Way Performance From a Compact Form
The Linn 343 is a four-way floorstanding loudspeaker. Its driver arrangement includes:
-
A 19 mm thin-ply woven carbon dome tweeter
-
A 64 mm thin-ply woven carbon dome midrange driver
-
A 190 mm aluminum upper-bass driver
-
A down-firing 220 mm aluminum lower-bass driver
Using similar diaphragm materials for the tweeter and midrange helps maintain a consistent tonal character through the frequencies where voices and many instruments are most easily recognized.
Electronics Protected From Vibration
The 343’s electronics are housed inside a curved module at the rear. A three-point spring system isolates the module from vibrations produced by the cabinet and bass drivers, following principles Linn has used in the Sondek LP12.
The module is fan-cooled. A custom aluminum heat sink moves heat through a vent at the top of the speaker, allowing the electronics to operate silently.
Linn 343 Exakt Integrated

The Linn 343 Exakt Integrated is the most complete version of the system. Each loudspeaker contains the electronics needed to control and drive its individual units, including:
-
Linn Utopik power supply
-
Exakt digital crossover
-
Organik digital-to-analogue converters
-
Class AB amplification with Adaptive Bias Control
-
Power DAC technology for the bass system
Connected to a compatible Linn network music player through Exakt Link, the speaker requires no separate power amplifier or external DAC.
Exakt processing manages the crossover in the digital domain and helps the different frequencies arrive at the listener in time with one another. Each drive unit receives a signal optimized for its specific performance, reducing unnecessary loss between the source and the speaker's final movement.
Space Optimisation+ can then account for the room, speaker positions, and listening location. This lets the 343 Exakt Integrated deliver controlled bass and balanced performance in real living spaces where ideal placement may not always be possible.
Linn 343 Passive With Active Bass

The Linn 343 Passive with Active Bass, or PWAB, combines external amplification with an internally powered bass system.
-
External amplification: Drives the tweeter, midrange, and upper-bass units.
-
Active bass: The down-firing Pistonik bass driver uses its own Utopik power supply and Power DAC technology.
-
Reduced amplifier demand: The built-in bass system handles much of the low-frequency workload.
-
Greater flexibility: Listeners can keep an amplifier they already enjoy or select one that suits their preferences.
It is an appealing choice for customers who already own amplification they enjoy or want to build their system gradually.
The PWAB can also be incorporated into an external Exakt system with the appropriate amplification and Exaktbox, providing a path for future upgrades.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is the difference between the Linn 343 Exakt Integrated and PWAB?
Both versions use the same cabinet, four-way driver arrangement, and Pistonik bass system. The Exakt Integrated model contains its own amplification, Organik DACs, and digital crossover. The Passive with Active Bass model uses external amplification for the tweeter, midrange, and upper-bass drivers, while its lower-bass system is internally powered.
-
Does the Linn 343 Exakt Integrated require a separate amplifier?
No. Each speaker includes amplification, a digital crossover, DACs, bass electronics, and a power supply. It connects to a compatible Linn network music player through Exakt Link.
-
Can I use my existing amplifier with the Linn 343 PWAB?
Yes. Your external amplifier drives the tweeter, midrange, and upper-bass units through the speaker’s analogue passive crossover. The down-firing Pistonik lower-bass driver uses its own built-in amplification.
-
What is Pistonik?
Pistonik is Linn’s drive unit technology, first introduced in the flagship 360 loudspeakers. In the 343, it powers the 8-inch down-firing bass driver and 6-inch upper-bass driver, which together handle about 70% of the speaker’s acoustic workload.
-
Can the Linn 343 PWAB be upgraded to Exakt operation?
Yes. You can use the PWAB model in an external Exakt system with compatible amplification and a Linn Exaktbox, providing a clear upgrade path as your system develops.
