Marantz has just pulled the wraps off the MCR 60n, a compact all-in-one hi-fi system built to replace an entire rack of separates with a single box. It's the most capable compact system Marantz has built to date, and a genuine upgrade over the long-running M-CR612 it succeeds.
The MCR 60n is built around the idea that you shouldn't need five components to enjoy music from five different places. It packs a built-in CD player, a moving-magnet phono stage for a turntable, HDMI eARC for TV audio, and full network streaming into one compact chassis roughly the size of a large hardcover book. Whether you're spinning a CD, dropping a needle on a record, streaming from your phone, or just watching TV, it's all handled by the same unit and the same remote.
Marantz gave the MCR 60n a new amplifier design with an updated power supply, pushing output to 65 watts per channel into 4 ohms across two zones, or 33 watts per channel when running all four amplifier channels at once. That's a meaningful step up from the outgoing M-CR612, with the extra current on tap translating to tighter bass and more headroom when a track's dynamics call for it. The amp also supports bi-amping and parallel bridge-tied load configurations, and it can drive a second listening area independently, so it's just as much at home anchoring a bedroom system as it is powering speakers in two rooms at once.
Under the hood, the MCR 60n runs Marantz and Denon's latest HEOS platform, with support for Spotify Connect, TIDAL, Qobuz Connect, AirPlay 2, and Roon Ready, plus Bluetooth for quick phone pairing and multi-room playback throughout the house. It handles high-resolution files up to 32-bit/384kHz PCM and DSD 11.2MHz, and four Smart Select presets let you jump straight to a favourite source, volume, and tone setting with a single button press.
An HDMI eARC input lets the MCR 60n double as your TV's sound system, complete with HDMI-CEC so your existing remote can control the volume, and onboard decoding for Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus. For anyone who's been putting off buying a soundbar, this is a genuine alternative that also happens to be a serious two-channel music system.
