At the highest level of analogue playback, the challenge isn’t extracting more information—it’s preserving the smallest signals without interference, distortion, or instability. The P10 is designed for that level of precision, where every part of the phono stage becomes critical to what ultimately reaches the speakers.
The P10 is CH Precision’s flagship phono stage, developed alongside the L10 and M10 as part of the 10 Series reference system. It builds on the widely respected P1, but introduces a completely new architecture: a twin-chassis design with a dedicated, heavily regulated power supply and a newly developed three-stage gain topology. This approach lowers the noise floor even further—by approximately 5 dB compared to the already exceptionally quiet P1—while expanding dynamic range and resolution.
In listening, the effect is not one of added character, but of increased clarity and stability. The background becomes quieter, allowing low-level detail—room ambience, harmonic decay, subtle timing cues—to emerge more naturally. Imaging gains precision, and the sense of space becomes more continuous and believable. Complex passages remain organized, with each instrument occupying a clearly defined position rather than blending into the whole.
In a real-world system, the P10 is designed for serious analogue front ends, particularly those using multiple tonearms or cartridges. With four fully independent phono inputs—two current-sensing inputs for moving coil cartridges and two voltage-sensing inputs for MM or MC—it can accommodate a wide range of cartridge types and configurations without compromise.
Technically, the P10 is unusually flexible. Gain is adjustable from approximately 45 dB to 78 dB in precise 3 dB steps, allowing accurate matching to cartridge output levels. Loading can be finely tuned across a wide impedance range, and CH’s integrated setup tools—including gain and loading “wizards”—help optimize performance based on real measurements before leaving the signal path purely analogue.
Equalization is equally comprehensive. In addition to standard RIAA, the P10 supports multiple historical EQ curves (including EMI, Columbia, Decca, and NAB), along with selectable Neumann pole filtering and optional high-pass filtering for record rumble. This makes it particularly valuable for archival playback or systems built around diverse record collections.
The dual-chassis construction plays a central role in its performance. By physically separating the power supply from the sensitive gain stages—and incorporating extensive regulation and galvanic isolation—the P10 minimizes electrical and mechanical interference, allowing each stage to operate under optimal conditions.
For the listener, all of this translates into something deceptively simple: a more complete connection to the recording. Not because the P10 adds anything, but because it removes the barriers that prevent vinyl from fully revealing what it contains.
