LAiV Crescendo VERSE DAC

LAiV Crescendo VERSE is a compact DAC, preamp and headphone amplifier built around a discrete R2R ladder architecture, designed for listeners who want a more natural, “un‑digital” take on digital playback in both desktop and full hi‑fi systems. It combines LAiV’s proprietary R2R DAC, an analogue volume‑controlled preamp stage and a discrete headphone amp in one chassis, so you can run it straight into power amps, active speakers or a wide range of headphones without extra boxes.

At its core is LAiV’s balanced R2R ladder DAC, using tightly matched 0.05% resistors to create a direct, low‑noise signal path with stable imaging and a tonal balance that favours texture and long‑term listening over spotlight detail. VERSE supports hi‑res playback up to PCM 768 kHz and DSD256, and gives you unusually fine control over how that digital signal is handled: you can choose native 1‑bit DSD or multibit DSD processing, and use the built‑in sampling rate converter to resample PCM (up to 16×) and DSD for the presentation that best suits your system and library.

On the analogue side, a discrete buffered output stage with analogue volume control allows VERSE to act as a genuine preamp, feeding both balanced XLR and single‑ended RCA outputs concurrently with low output impedance and good drive for longer cable runs. That makes it easy to drop into either a fully balanced chain or a more conventional single‑ended setup without compromise. The discrete headphone amplifier offers selectable low/medium/high gain, up to 1100 mW per channel from the balanced 4.4 mm output and 290 mW from the 6.35 mm output, with built‑in protection for temperature, overload and DC faults, so it can handle everything from sensitive IEMs to more demanding full‑size headphones cleanly and safely.
