Product Description

The Grado SR80 Classic is a natural next step if you like what the SR60 does but want a bit more grip, presence and detail without losing the straightforward charm that makes these headphones easy to live with. It stays true to Grado’s open‑back, on‑ear formula, but brings extra refinement through an updated 44 mm X2 driver and carefully reworked tuning.

At the heart of the SR80 Classic is Grado’s 44 mm X2 dynamic driver, built around a Mylar diaphragm, copper voice coil and efficient rare‑earth magnet system. Compared with the SR60, the SR80 is voiced for a touch more immediacy: bass is a little tighter and better defined, the midrange has more presence, and treble detail is more clearly articulated without tipping into harshness when driven sensibly. That balance makes it a strong match for guitars, vocals and acoustic instruments, where rhythmic energy and texture matter just as much as outright smoothness.

Comfort and build follow the familiar Grado recipe but with some thoughtful touches. The SR80 uses a lightweight, injection‑molded housing and Grado’s steel spring headband, so you can gently adjust the clamping force to suit your head. It ships with Grado’s F‑cushion earpads, which bring the driver a little closer to the ear and help reinforce the dynamic, upfront feel the SR80 is known for. The fixed Bronze cable is designed for reliability and clean signal transfer, without making the headphones feel heavy or cumbersome in everyday use.

In real‑world systems, the SR80 Classic works well as a dedicated home headphone for listening from a laptop, DAC/amp or integrated amplifier with a decent headphone output. Its open‑back design lets the sound breathe and gives a more open soundstage than most closed headphones at this level, but it will leak some sound, so it’s best suited to quieter spaces rather than commuting. With a rated frequency response of 20 Hz–20 kHz, sensitivity around 98 dB and a nominal impedance in the low‑to‑mid‑30 ohm range, it’s easy to drive, yet still responds well to better amplification if you already have a small desktop DAC/amp in your setup.

If you are looking for an approachable, characterful open‑back headphone that feels a little more grown‑up than the entry‑level models, but still keeps things simple and enjoyable, the Grado SR80 Classic is a very sensible place to land.
