Developed from Magnetar's MKII player platform, it plays UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, CD, SACD and DVD-Audio, along with USB and network media, and delivers 4K video with Dolby Vision and HDR10+. A battery-assisted DC power architecture with BYD lithium-based power stages, a unified 10 MHz master clock and a heavily reinforced, internally isolated chassis are all dedicated to one goal - delivering the cleanest, most stable digital signal possible from a physical disc.

The Hi-Fi Centre Team Take

For collectors who still value physical media, the Ultima is a reminder of just how good a disc can look and sound. With no built-in DAC or analogue outputs, every part of the design is focused on reading, clocking and transmitting data with as little noise and timing error as possible, leaving conversion to the processor or DAC you have already chosen. The battery-assisted power stages keep the transport and clock circuits isolated from household mains noise, and in a well-sorted system that shows up as a calmer, more stable picture and a quieter, more focused soundstage from SACD and lossless Blu-ray soundtracks alike. Separate main and audio-only HDMI outputs make it easy to send video straight to a projector or display while routing audio to a dedicated processor, making it a natural centrepiece for a serious private cinema.

Key Acoustic & Design Features

Battery-Assisted DC Power: An external BYD lithium-based power supply feeds dedicated DC power stages, isolating the transport, clocking and signal paths from the noise and fluctuations of conventional mains power.

Unified 10 MHz Master Clock: All system clocks, including the 25 MHz and 27 MHz domains, are derived from a single 10 MHz reference with 0.01-0.05 ppm stability and phase noise below -150 dB for exceptional timing precision.

Reinforced, Isolated Chassis: A heavily reinforced structure with isolated internal compartments suppresses resonance and vibration, while controlled grounding and power distribution prevent interference between subsystems.

Authorized Dealer Support: Hi-Fi Centre is an Authorized Dealer for Magnetar, ensuring authentic products backed by full manufacturer warranty coverage, in-store demonstration and expert setup support.

Technical Specifications

Brand & Model: Magnetar Ultima

Component Type: Universal Disc & Media Transport (no internal DAC)

Platform: Magnetar MKII

Supported Disc Formats: UHD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, CD, SACD, DVD-Audio

Additional Media Playback: USB and network file playback; DSD and DoP support

Video Support: 4K Ultra HD, Dolby Vision, HDR10+

HDMI Outputs: 1x Main HDMI (video and audio), 1x Audio-Only HDMI

Digital Audio Outputs: 1x AES/EBU (XLR, with DoP support), 1x Coaxial S/PDIF (RCA)

Analogue Audio Outputs: None (dedicated digital transport)

Clock Architecture: Unified 10 MHz master reference with derived 25 MHz and 27 MHz domains

Crystal Oscillator: 0.01-0.05 ppm stability; phase noise below -150 dB

Connections: 10 MHz clock connection, USB 3.0, Ethernet LAN, RS-232C

Power Supply: External BYD lithium-based battery-assisted DC power supply

Mains Voltage: 100-240V AC, 50/60Hz

Power Consumption: 40W

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Magnetar Ultima have a built-in DAC?

No. The Ultima is a dedicated digital transport with no internal DAC or analogue outputs. It sends a digital signal via HDMI, AES/EBU or coaxial to an external DAC, AV processor or surround processor, which handles the conversion.

Why does the Magnetar Ultima use a battery-assisted power supply?

Conventional mains power carries electrical noise and fluctuations that can affect sensitive transport and clock circuits.
